"This I Believe"

NPR, a.k.a National Public Radio, has a segement on once a week called "This I Believe." It's a really good show that began almost 50 years ago and was brought back because of overwhelming demand. Basically what it is is simply important and prolific people speaking for a brief time about their most deeply-held beliefs. I am going to post a link to it on the blog, and this month you are going to do an assignment related to one of the podcasts from the show. To that end, this week's blog question will prepare you to think about it. So, onward and upward.

Have you ever thought about what the guiding principles in your life are? By guiding principles I simply mean the things in life that you truly and fundamentally believe; the beliefs that shape your decisions when you find yourself in a position where you have to make one. Perhaps it is the notion that "everyone, no matter how seemingly insignificant, has something to teach us" or something as common as the idea that "all men are created equal and are endowed with certain inalienable rights...among them...life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" or "treat others the way that you wish to be treated" or "blood is thicker than water."
Those are just some generic examples, but your challenge this week is explore some of your own core beliefs and choose one guiding principle that you would like to shape your journey into adulthood and throughout life. Don't get caught up in tired cliches or age-old aphorisms, be creative, be yourself. What I mean is, really think about the beliefs that you hold near and dear to your heart and try to capture them in your own words. Talk about why these beliefs are important to you and how you came to recognize them. (400-450 words/75pts)

  1. I believe that you should never give up, if you really want something you should always work as hard as you can and beyond to accomplish that, it is not about saying I am going to “try”, I did what I could. It is about exploring more of what you are capable of and doing the impossible things that you never thought you could do. People are always regretting things about their past because they always ask themselves what if I did this, what if I made that, and they never made their dreams come true, they gave up. That’s why I always put my heart and mind into everything I do, so I can be satisfied with myself and know that if something didn’t work wasn’t because of me. I believe on “second changes as long as crime was not involve” , I personally think humans deserve second changes, we all make mistakes, but we can change too, we can be better persons, some others choose not to change but that’s on them, once you give somebody a second opportunity , the decision of being a better human being is on them. As long as you didn’t kill or committed a crime, you deserve that second change. Some people give too many chances, others don’t give any chances at all, neither of those are good. I know that is very difficult to just forgive and forget, but we must try, so we can live a better life. Some people say I forgive but I don’t forget, that’s a lie !, then you have never forgive from the bottom of your heart. If you give someone a third chance, then they are going to take advantage of you, but if you don’t give the other person any chances, you are selfish. I believe that “every cloud has a silver lining”, we all have bad times and sometimes they get even worse, but you should never feel hopeless because difficult times always lead to better days. I’ve had many situations like this in my past, where everything seems like a nightmare but sooner or later I wake up and find better things on my way, that’s why I always have faith and I always keep my head up no matter what, because I believe in God and I put everything in his hands, He knows what is better for me and the people around me. I believe that if you do good things in life and help other people without wanting something in exchange, life is going to return it to you in the future two times better, that applies when you do a bad thing too, there’s no way you can escape from that, karma is going to find you. This are some beliefs that I go with in my life and apply them every time they are need it.

  2. One thing in life that I truly believe in is, “Karma.” If anyone doesn’t believe in karma, I would just think they are crazy. There are two types of karma. One being good karma and the other being bad karma. My definition of good karma is when you do something good, something better will happen to you in the future. My definition of bad karma is when one does something bad, and something bad happens to them in return, it’s pretty simple. Karma comes to mind often in my life, whether good or bad. Another thing I believe in is, “For every good there’s a bad.” Some things in life are just never perfect. There’s always someone or something that messes everything up. And then again I’m not saying that things are never perfect. I also believe that, “What you do in the dark will eventually come into the light.” Not everything goes my way, bad things happen for a reason. Whenever I do something wrong I know it will come back to me in the future. I also believe in, “Trust no one,” In my eyes it’s pretty simple. I have been in too many situations where trust was the wrong thing to do. In many cases, you will never see the true side in people.

  3. one of my beliefs that i live by is dont do what you want to do, do what your supposed to do. this to me means when your placed in a situation do the right thing not the thing you want to do. for example you find a wallet first thing in some peoples minds is to check for money and take it but your suppose to check for id and try to return it. its basicly to me whats in your heart if you have a good heart you return but if you dont have good heart well i think you know what happens.
