So, yesterday, a beautiful day indeed, found me walking a trail I had never seen before with my dog, Josie, faithfully traipsing by my side. I suppose that doesn't sound particularly noteworthy, except for the fact that this trail I had never seen before exists on my property. [As a sidebar, I live on 123 acres of property, most of which consists of woods and a pretty little lake that I like to refer to as "Lake Bunj."]
So, in any case, there I am, walking with Josie when I see an opening in the woods that opens up to a trail, so immediately I want to explore it.
Which started me thinking and drawing parallels. For instance, the same thing happens when I open a notebook to a blank piece of paper--I immediately want to fill it with words, ideas, thoughts (some half-baked, some not) etc. Or when I stare out into the ocean and immediately feel the urge to sail to the ends of it to see where it stops. I am fascinated by the unknown and it is because of that fascination I became a teacher in the first place. Why? Because the unknown triggers a desire in me to KNOW, to learn. And I am so thankful for that because without it, I wouldn't be here, in room 204, typing out this blog.
And that, my pumpkin-sunshines, is what I want to focus on this week, especially in the spirit of my favorite holiday--Thanksgiving.
What are you thankful for? Now, please don't limit yourselves to the trite old cliches like "I'm thankful for my family" blah blah blah...Not that it isn't good to be thankful for your fam--of course it is. But what I want you to do here is go a little deeper. I am thankful for my desire to KNOW-for wanting to explore unknown trails, to add to the store of things I learn on a day-to-day basis. I explained why already--and I want you to do the same. It won't be enough to tell us what you are thankful for--you also need to include the WHY. Try to consider yourself--who you are, what you value and where you imagine yourself to be in the future.
Use the force.

ReplyDeleteI’m thankful because of the way I am, I forgive people and I give second changes if you really deserve that opportunity, you have to work for it, not many people can do this and is difficult for them, but I got a “big” heart. I’m very responsible and I know this will take me far, I will know how to keep my job save in the future. I’m thankful because I have the ability to heal the pain from the past with the time, many people has hurt me but I don’t hate them, and it was people that I really loved and care about, but is amazing how I still got love for them, the wounds are healed. I’m thankful because I believe in God, so I always have faith and hope. I’m thankful because I live happy with what I have, simple things make me happy. I’m not selfish and I share what I have with others, I’m thankful for that, I don’t put myself on first place, I always think about the people I love first and then I think about me, sometimes this is a bad thing, but I consider it a good one. I’m thankful because my parents are alive and they are there to guide me and love me. I’m thankful because I hold no grudges, I have bad memories and regrets, but I don’t let all those things to “consume” me. I’m thankful because I’ve known happiness better than sadness, I can say that I’m a happy girl, there are some things that I need to be “complete”, but I can work with what I have. I’m thankful because I’m here and a great future is calling me. I’m thankful, because I laugh, smile, love, eat, sleep, breath every day. I have a very good health, I get really sick like once in a year. I’m thankful because I’m educating myself in school every day I’m learning new things, new words and new values. I appreciate everything that I have, and I don’t take anything for granted, because I know that the earth spins, and that one day I can have it all, and the next one I can loose everything. I’m thankful because I have goals that I want to achieve and motivation, sometimes people don’t even know why they are here, they can’t find a meaning to their lives, that’s very sad, but I believe that we are all here because we have a mission, we have to do something before we leave this planet, right know I don’t what is my mission, but I’ll find it. I’m thankful because I don’t cry every single day. I’m thankful because I have a boyfriend, family and friends that care about me, and that makes me feel good, I would never want to face loneliness. I’m thankful for being a “Latina” , thank God I was born in Colombia, because my country made me who I am today. I’m thankful for many more things and I’m thankful to have a life in this world.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for so many things in my life. But there is one thing that I am thankful for that really stands out from all the others. This is not necessarily something I can lose or something that I can just gain. It is something that I was just born with. It is my ability to tolerate certain things in life. Some people hold grudges and they can never get over certain things. Well I can do all of that. Sure I dislike certain people in life, but I still try to be nice to those people to try to make it better. I can tolerate a lot of things such as pain, people, and emotions. My ability to tolerate pain has been extremely useful in the past few years for me because I have had this problem with my wrist and I have had to get multiple surgeries on it and that takes a great deal of tolerance for pain I think. My ability to tolerate my emotions is an extremely useful quality to poses too because it helps me move on from certain things. For example, a relationship. I am not one of those people who let their emotions control them right after breaking up with their boyfriend or girlfriend, I learn from the situation and move on in life. I don’t just sit there and cry about it for the next month. And the final main quality I poses that I am thankful for is my ability to tolerate with people. People can be very annoying to deal with and like I said, I dislike some people but I don’t hold grudges. But a lot of people annoy me but I don’t dislike them. I don’t let that get to me though. I just go with the flow and just hope they get the point that they are annoying the hell out of me.
ReplyDeleteWell those are the more in depth things in my life that I am thankful for.
I'm thankful for my loving character, this is because I can get along with just about anyone. people see me and know I'm a nice guy. I feel that if you can get pass peoples fault and misunderstanding then you can become friends with everybody.I have met some very interesting people over my life time. I can honestly say that I have never met a person I don't like.I don't treat people with disrespect and I'm nice to every one I meet. This the thing I am most thankful for.For without this I would angry and lonely all the time and that would not be pleasant for any one. people would start calling me ignorant and a jerk. The fact that I have this trait makes me happy and if I'm happy I can make other people happy.I am also thankful for my ability to see the beauty in any thing.Like the delicacy and power found in a bolt of lightning. The transition of color in a sunset that makes every one fall in love with it.The site of a full moon on a clear night with the stars glowing in the distance. My mom says I have an artist impulse that me to see these thing. This also allows me to be creative with word.Like this, Her beauty struck deep like an arrow through my soul, her eyes sea green like the raging tides, her skin soft like the wind against my cheek, hair long and brown like a river of chocolate, her hand fitting into mine like the interlocking pieces of a puzzle showing that we belong together forever me and her till the end of time.See now that was something that i thought up in five minutes.People love my poetry especially girls it lets them know that I'm tough but can be kind and loving. These things and more are what I am thankful for for without these I would not be the extraordinary person I am today. So to all I'm out of here see you next blog
ReplyDeleteBeing thankful this thanksgiving was occurs was my family like ever year. But not playing football this thanksgiving was hard on me and my family. Just being a part of a game that has been around and a rivalry for many years is great to be a part even if I’m not playing. And that’s what I am thankful for this thanksgiving, not just football but being a part of the Oakcrest family. Oakcrest has been in my family for many years and that what makes it so special to walk the hallways my family has been through. My father, two aunts, and 5 uncles all walked the hallways I walk today. That’s what I looked forward to from the first time I was thinking about high school to when I got my 8th grade deplume. And when other students say I hate Oakcrest and this place sucks. I just smile because I know how great this school. Playing football is great for me as well, my two uncles played for the falcons. So I have a lot of tradition and pride when I walk these hallways. And I am very thankful for sports in my life. I know it sounds crazy and lame, it’s true. I think if I didn’t get involved with sports I would be the same person I am today. Sports have been a large impact on my life from a young age. I think sports help me in life to look at something in a different perspective, and my attitude. Whatever sport it is I will give 100 and 10% into it, no matter what. Just like this thanksgiving, my mom had t hide my cleats because I wanted to play and keep the traditions going. And all this is what I am thankful for this thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteIm thankful for every single opportunity that has been laid in front of me so I can succeed. I’m thankful for so much and it’s hard to say what really floats my boat and makes me thankful. Maybe is it my musical capabilities, or my happiness, or even my sports skills. Or maybe the drive that I have in me to do things most people aren’t willing to do
ReplyDeleteI love music and I was introduced at an early age so maybe that’s why I have progressed so much, im just trying to have a profession if I cant succeed in school. And through music I know I can make people smile they can relate to songs they have enjoyment.
Maybe its because im so happy and im an easy forgiver, but that’s also why I could have been hurt so much emotionally. Its hard to really debate what im thankful for the most, maybe its for the people and life I have been surrounded with. I love life and I hate it. Yet you keep going maybe it’s my willingness to succeed. But truthfully I think its music thank has made me so thankful, music is my LIFE.
Its something g you can vent to without using words, something to remorse with, something to enjoy, to be happy, to play and let others enjoy. This is why im so thankful for music.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while now and I decided that I’m thankful for my life. Many people in this world don’t have the opportunities we have today. I’m thankful for waking up every morning, going to school, being educated, and coming home to my wonderful family. I’m thankful for my friends that made me the way I am. I’m thankful for being able to eat food everyday. I’m thankful for all he technologies that we have today. As you can tell I value the little things in life. Some of the little things may not seem like so much but they mean a lot to me. I’m a type of person that can not hold grudges for so long. I’m a type of person that values a lot of things in life. My dad used to tell me to accept what ever life throws at you because you ever know where it might lead you in the future. I’m guessing he is right because he has been on this earth longer than I have been. There are many possibilities that the future has in hold for me. In the future I can imagine myself either being a professional soccer player or owning my own business. If I strive to do my best I think I can achieve what ever I want.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for is my sister and brothers If it wasn’t for them i would not be as strong as i am today. When our family was going thru a little trouble my sister was so strong, she did everything for me and my brothers and i love her for that because she’s the one that gave me my heart and my strength to deal with our problems. i am also thankful for my brothers because when i was a kid i was short and fat and very antisocial. Well my brothers would rip me out the house and make me play foot ball and at first i hated it because i was no good but then i started to get better at it. Then i lost a lot of weight and i loved the game and it made me more confidence. This is why I am thankful for my siblings for what they showed me and the love they gave me.
ReplyDeleteWow, I don't even know where to start. There are a lot of things in my life that I am thankful for. First off, I'm thankful to just be alive. To live every day to the fullest. It shocks and amazes me of how people tried to survive and were treated back then. We take for granted of how we view life today. Most of the time we're just ungrateful, believe it or not. But people really had it rough back then, not even a long time ago! For most people, they just look at the negative things in their life and don't appreciate the important things they value. For example, I'm thankful for my cell phone, iPod, and video games. I honestly don't think I can live without them. But then again, I'm thankful for being able to go home and have a roof over my head and clothes on my back and food to eat. Because, even for most families, they don't even have that. I'm thankful to have a great family. We always stick by each other through thick and thick. When times are hard we're always there for each other. Even if we get on each others nerves most of the time, nothing could ever replace my family. I'm thankful for my mom. She is my best friend and she is ALWAYS there for me when I need her. When I was younger I'd get sick all the time and would always go to the hospital. My parents would always spend the night with me, and they would do whatever it took for them to see me better and to be back home and be happy. In all honesty, my mom gets on my nerves most of the time. She has a tendency to yell and argue with people about stupid stuff. But she just wants the best for me, and wants me to be successful in life. She encourages me to do a lot of things. She did it to me all the time when I was growing up, and I would hate it. Because I didn't enjoy the things she made me do, like Karate, Summer Camp, Church groups, and other things. The last thing she made me do was band, and that is my most favorite activity she forced me to do. I'm thankful for music. I've always loved music and that is my life. I don't think I would be the person I am today without music. I'm thankful for my good friends in band. We had an amazing a fun season. We may not have won 1st place at Championships, but we worked our butts off all season long! And no body practiced as hard as we did. There's just certain people that don't care as much, and people that have no discipline and criticize people. That's what kept us from winning. We need to work on that for next year. But anyway, I love my friends in band. They are the people I can actually call my friends. Most of my life, either I didn't have any good friends, or I'd have friends I'd be close to for most of my life, but then they would change as we grew up. I also thought most negative people in my life were my friends, but definitely were not, and didn't care about me at all. See, my friends in band, we always have fun and are there for each other. We're a family. We do a lot of fun things together, like hanging out on the weekends, going 2 parades, and hanging out after practices. Yes, we had a lot of problems with each other, but those problems could never overlap the good times we had. I wouldn't trade them for anyone else. I really love band and music. When I grow up, I want to be a music producer and make my own music. I sometimes do that on my synthesizer. But if not that, I would like to play the drums in college. That is, if I can. I'm trying to do whatever it takes. So to wrap this blog up, I'm thankful for being the person I am and grew up to be, and I'm thankful to have a great life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I am most great full for is my family hahha just kidding I am thankful for my ability to look at the bright side for most of my life and my ability to be happy. Because in life bad things happen a lot more than good things and the quicker you learn that and understand that the easier life is. That is why I am able to be happy most of the time because I try not to dwell on the bad things. Many times I find myself in a depressed state then I think about how bad other people got it and I usually get over it. It helps me a lot because being mad or depressed is no fun I remember I used to always look at the bad side and think why this is happening to me what did I do to deserve this but I cut that down to a minimum also I think about everything that I do got so that also helps me and for the most part I am able to be happy because I don’t really let what people say or think get me mad because they don’t pay me they don’t feed me they don’t contribute to my life in any shape or form so I couldn’t care less what they say or feel. I am also thankful for my ability to make people laugh and cheer them up cas I like to lighten peoples days it makes me feel better about my self and makes me happy because often times see my friends mad or pist off and im the one that the come to to make them in a better mood. Also another reson why I like my ability to be happy is because it’s the one thing that every body and all I want and I am happy for most of the day and also it allows me to not stay mad at people for a long time at all like I usually am in a good mood and not many people can change that and if they do its not for a longer time then 10 minutes and it these things let me be able to live my life and not really worry bout anyone else
