Lyrical Philosophies

Although you may think I personalized this blog post for Kristen D, I can assure you that is not the case.
We've been out of blog practice for a few weeks; time to ease back in with something that will get us thinking about ourselves in ways we don't usually. So, onward and upward.
Many of you use music as a gateway. To sanity, to serenity, to solace and/or to solitude. Music, to many of you, is an escape from the harsh realities of teenage life.
So, now it is also going to be a tool in which you come to a greater understanding of how you see the world, and how you see yourself.
Think about all the music you love to listen to. Specifically, think about the lyrics to songs you love. Now, I want you to pick one or two songs that adequately encapsulate how you feel about life, your life. Of course, like a quote, nothing can COMPLETELY "sum up" your entire life--I understand that. But many songs, either through explicit or implied messages in lyrics, can at least provide a concrete example of either what you want out of life, what you want out love and how you want to be perceived, taken, understood etc. These are the key concepts I am looking for.
So, your task this week is to tell us about a song, copy a few of the refrains/chorus/passages, and explicate their meaning(s) to you.
Try to pick ones that have some depth and that will provide a deeper understanding of your innate beliefs. (450-500 words/70pts)

  1. Alright well this is perfect
This new band Man Overboard is starting to et noticed and they have this really deep song
    Love Your Friends Die Laughing
Well the night gets old so I’m back again.
The day just started because I’m up with my old friends,
the fat smoke and funny joke.
Sitting like a sponge, letting everything soak.
And I just got the nerve get in the cage so bite me now.
We made love tonight as the result of a fight.
When you put your arms around me the whole worlds alright.
And a days worth of bitching goes down the drain
when you lay in my bed and pick my brain.
Shut up! It’s my turn to talk.
Don’t try and run before you learn to walk.
Because a days worth of bitching goes down the drain
when you lay in my bed and pick my brain.
I left my heart with my phone in my center console.
I left my feelings with my wallet and my keys
I feel so stupid because I came here without anything
    But I’m finally at ease

This song really represents how I express myself, and for many its hard to express so this song how like everything is better with friends, F**k parents and of course dirty sluts. You gotta always U- turn the shit out of them.

Alright this second song, many people will be like oh that’s so gay, but this band My Chemical Romance is a deep band, I saw one of there first shows at the Stone Pony, and it was like holy shit these guys are like great ( of course that was 4 years ago) and now it seems they are all about money.

    Im Not Okay
Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say.
I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.
For all the dirty looks, the photographs your boyfriend took,
Remember when you broke your foot from jumping out the second floor?

    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    You wear me out

What will it take to show you that it's not the life it seems?
    (I'm not okay)
I've told you time and time again you sing the words but don't know what it means
    (I'm not okay)
To be a joke and look, another line without a hook
I held you close as we both shook for the last time take a good hard look!

    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    You wear me out

    Forget about the dirty looks
    The photographs your boyfriend took
You said you read me like a book, but the pages all are torn and frayed

    I'm okay
    I'm okay!
    I'm okay, now
    (I'm okay, now)

But you really need to listen to me
Because I'm telling you the truth
    I mean this, I'm okay!
    (Trust Me)

    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    Well, I'm not okay
    I'm not o-fucking-kay
    I'm not okay
    I'm not okay
    (Okay)

This song relates to anyone who has a
    shitty day
    its perfect

  2. The song I would so that makes me look at life and really think is, “Young Forever,” Jay-Z. I just think of this song as to take life day by day and that you talk about the past when you were young, even if it was yesterday. So I look at life as take it day by day and have a good time doing it, life goes by too fast to wish for the next.
    Let’s dance
    in style,
    Let’s dance for a while,
    Heaven can wait we’re
    only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst,
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?
Let us die young or let us live forever,
    We don't have the power
    but we never say never,
    Sitting in a sandpit,
    Life is a short trip,
The music’s for the sad man,

    Forever young,
    I wanna be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
    Forever and ever
    Forever young I wanna be
    Forever young
Do you really want to live forever?
    Forever, forever

So we live a life like a video
When the sun is always out
    and you never get old
    And the champagne’s always cold
And the music is always good
And the pretty girls just happen
to stop by in the hood
And they hop their pretty ass
up on the hood of dat pretty ass car
    Without a wrinkle in today
    Cuz there is no tomorrow
    Just some picture perfect day
    To last a whole lifetime
    And it never ends
Cos all we have to do is hit rewind
So lets just stay in the
    moment, smoke some weed,
    Drink some wine,
    Reminisce talk some sh-t forever
    [ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/eQVV ]
    young is in your mind
Leave a mark that can't erase
    neither space nor time
So when the director yells cut,
    I'll be fine,
    I'm forever young…

Fear not when, fear not why,
Fear not much while were alive,
Life is for living not living up tight,
See ya somewhere up in the sky,
Fear not die, I'll be alive for a
    million years, bye bye,
So not for legends, I'm forever young
    My name shall survive
    Through the darkest blocks,
    over kitchen stoves,
    Over Pyrex pots, my name
    shall be passed down to
    generations
While debating up in barber shops,
    young slung, hung here,
    Shorty, the n-gga from here
    With a little ambition just
    what we can become here,
And as the father passed his story
    down to his sons ears,
Younger kid, younger every year, yeah
So if you love me baby this is
    how you let me know.
don't ever let me go, that's
how you let me know, baby,

    Slamming Bentley doors,
    Hopping out of Porsche’s,
Popping up on Forbes lists, Gorgeous, Hold up,
    N-ggas thought I lost it,
    They be talking bullsh-t
    I be talking more sh-t
    They nauseous, Hold up,
    I'll be here forever
You know, I'm on my fall sh-t,
    And I ain't waiting for
    closure, I will never forfeit,
    Less than four bars,
    Guru bring the chorus in,
Did you get the picture yet,
    I'm painting you a portrait of young…

  3. This was a tough one but I would have to say the song that best describes me is the song “Country Boy” by Alan Jackson. I think this song best describes me because I absolutely love country music, and this song is the ultimate country song. Another reason why I think this song describes me the best because people say I am a hick, and this is also the ultimate hick song. Here is the lyrics to the song so you know what I am talking about.
Excuse me ma’am, I saw you walkin’
    I turned around, I’m not a stalker
Where you going? Maybe I can help you
My tank is full, and I’d be obliged to take you

    ‘Cause I’m a country boy, I’ve got a 4-wheel drive
Climb in my bed, I’ll take you for a ride
Up city streets, down country roads
I can get you where you need to go
    ’cause I’m a country boy

You sure look good, sittin’ in my right seat
Buckle up, I’ll take you through the five speeds
Wind it up, or I can slow it way down
In the woods or right uptown

    I’m a country boy, I’ve got a 4-wheel drive
Climb in my bed, I’ll take you for a ride
Up city streets, down country roads
I can get you where you need to go
    ’cause I’m a country boy

Big 35’s whinin’ on the asphalt
Grabbin’ mud, and slingin’ up some red dirt
    ’cause I’m a country boy

My muffler’s loud, dual Thrush tubes
I crank the music, the tone gets real good
Let me know when we’re gettin’ close
You can slide on out, or we can head on down the road

    ‘Cause I’m a country boy, I’ve got a 4-wheel drive
Climb in my bed, I’ll take you for a ride
Up city streets, down country roads
I can get you where you wanna go
    ’cause I’m a country boy

Bucket seats, soft as baby’s new butt
Lockin’ hubs, that’ll take you through a deep rut

    ‘Cause I’m a country boy, I’ve got a 4-wheel drive
Climb in my bed, I’ll take you for a ride
Up city streets, down winding roads
I can get you where you need to go
    ‘Cause I’m a country boy

    Yea I’m a country boy, I’ve got a 4-wheel drive
Climb in my bed, I’ll take you for a ride
Up city streets, down country roads
I can get you where you wanna go
    ’cause I’m a country boy

    Yeah, I'm a country boy,
Oh, I'm just a country boy,
    A nice little country boy.

  4. I hate when people ask me or say “What’s your favorite song?” Because I listen to a lot of music and have A LOT of favorite songs, like hundreds. The type of song I listen to is usually how I’m feeling, like for example, I might listen to rap / hip-hop if it’s the weekend or I’m happy and in the mood, like Cassidy, Fabolous, Lloyd Banks, Meek Millz, Lil’ Wayne, Drake, Juelz Santana, etc. (Some of my favorite artists. They mostly rap about the same things, which are too expletive for school subject.) lol. Or, if I’m kind of down or tired I might listen to some R&B or jazz to calm me down, like Trey Songz or some jazz artist like Boney James. But I would have to say that the song that describes my life is a song called “Wonder” by Charles Hamilton. Now the sample in the song is a song called “Dig” by some group called Incubus, and it says:
    “We all have a weakness
but some of ours are easy to identify.
    Look me in the eye and ask for forgiveness;
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again
    Yes you are my friend.”
And in the chorus is a sample in the background that says:
    “If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
    The better part of me
    Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
    When everything else is gone.”
I can totally relate to these lyrics. I think of it as me and some of my girl friends that I fight with all the time. Sometimes I say and do things I don’t mean, and mostly argue. But regardless of all the bad that happened, I still love you guys, and we had a lot of great times and will always be good friends. This song is just about loving life and enjoying it. And about how regardless of your problems, you can still overcome. Here’s some more of the song:

“A morning begins, a morning due. Get the morning is due while enjoying my morning view.
Tell the nice sky “Nice to know you”. Admire the bright sky, son, I would like to hold you.
I like to know you. Reflect me. I would spend my whole life to know you. I could show you, the power of your shine. If I could only have an hour of your time. Take a second. Enjoy the life you bring, bright you bleam. Reminding me of how nice my dreams are. Blocking my eyes cuz it hurts. Why do I flirt with death? She don’t like me, I’m a jerk. I won’t die and so I roll by in the streets, vibbin the beats. I have been defeated. The winner is me. Listen to me, the beat is why I grin in defeat. Condition is sweet.Show me the way. Keep my mind from going under. I’ll be okay, cuz I don’t doubt I simply wonder. Don’t be afraid, never belong, never belong, on yourself. Don’t be afraid and just clone yourself, never really
    mean yourself.”
That’s the first part of the song. It’s an great song. I love it. I used to listen to it mostly all the time and I sometimes still do to this day.

  5. Yes, music is definitely a place to escape from some harsh realities of my teenager life. It’s probably one of the only ways for me to escape from some harsh realities. There are many songs on my list that I can use for this but you only said two so here they are. One of my favorite songs of all time is “over” by Drake. I seriously listen to this song just about every day. It just seems to never get old. Here are some of the lyrics.
I know way too many people here right now
That I didn’t know last year, who the f*ck are y’all?
I swear it feels like the last few nights
    We been everywhere and back
But I just can’t remember it all
What am I doin’? What am I doin’?
Oh, yeah, that’s right, I’m doin’ me
    I’m doin me
I’m livin’ life right now, mayne
And this what I’ma do ’til it’s over
    ‘Til it’s over
    But it’s far from over.
This is definitely my theme song. When I first heard this song I told myself that it’s never going to get old. Whenever I hear this song it makes me feel so good about myself and makes me want to express all my feelings.
For my second song is definitely an all time favorite. Actually I just heard this song recently and it’s called “lifestyle” by Ace Hood. When I listen to this song it just makes me want to live life to the fullest. I have to say that this song is also a song that can never get old. Here are some of the lyrics.
    I’m addicted to this lifestyle
    Blowin all my cash
In da strip club tryin a find me some cash
    I’m addicted to this lifestyle
Shawty I can’t change cuz that’s just who I am
    I’m addicted to this lifestyle
    My 4 cars
    Lying at the mall
    Baby ima star
    I’m addicted to this lifestyle
Shawty I can’t change cuz that’s just who I am
    I’m bout to always say
    Owegoegoego in the mall
    Owegoegoego buy it all
    Money in addition
    Gotta let you know
    This is who I am.

  6. I didn’t find a song that REALLY describes me or describes how I am feeling etc. But I found two, the first one is from Shakira and it is called “I NEED YOU”

“I don't know if I've lived ten thousand days or one day ten thousand times and I add you to my history wanting to change what I've lost for something better.”

“(Chorus:) I need you, I really need you my love wherever you are now I need all your love I need you, I really need you my love 'cuz you are part of me I need you right here 'cuz I can't live without you I haven't learned it…”

This fragment explains how I feel about life. The first thing that comes to my mind when I read this, is my boyfriend, because I really need him in my life and I have lost many things but I “gained” something better with him by my side, but it doesn’t only reflects the love for him, it reflects the love for the important people in my life and I feel like without them all I wouldn’t resist life, I need them all, I need their love. And if one day I am not with them I would feel very lost and sad, because they are a part of me, (my mom, dad, some friends.)

“And I feel lost like I'm lost as a needle in the middle of the sea as the moving sands I submerge among my loneliness.”

The word LONELINESS terrifies me, I don’t like that word, I love to be surrounded by people that loves me, but even though I have many people in my life, I feel sometimes lonely, and that’s how I feel “like a needle in the sea”.

This other song is from Shakira too, is called “I WANT TO FLY AWAY”

“I want to fly away from here I want to pack my bags and disappear I want to be free again don't know how, don’t know when but oh when I get there I know I will its only fare, I'll have seen the one and only place right for me and happy there I'll be. When things are just wrong and life’s getting hard when you've got nothing left to lose when your jobs harsh with a low pay and your boyfriends treating you like crap, you just want to fly away…”

Sometimes I feel like this, so stressed, and everything going wrong, and the only thing I want to do at that moment is to disappear and go in a vacation by myself, without thinking about my problems or the other people, and having my mind clear. I want to have a break from life, and be relaxed and happy. Things will never be as I want them to be, but I try everyday to make them good, and that’s why the stress starts to consume me.

  7. Life just seems like this every day thing that we all go through not knowing what’s next or what to expect. That’s how life should be life is a puzzle, and before we see the whole thing we like to guess and try to find out what the big picture is. Life starts with a trust worth act and ends with one. Our parents trust each other to love each other and take care of each other being life to us through sex. In the same kind of trust we die. But life is the start of everything. Without life we have nothing.
My life is a mix of things it has good and bad times but always it will be my life and it will be as good as I make it. Every day I make choices for me life on how I think it should be and if I should be happy with something or not if I should be friends with someone or not. These choices affect people every day. When people say someone has lead a good life, what are they referring to? Some people think its talking about how they never did something wrong or never had an ill will. That term “good life” is left to someone’s own opinion, but always there will be someone that is working hard for that “good life”. They do it in hopes of being remembered after they leave this life.
    Imagine this
I get a phone call from Regis -
he says "Do you want to be a millionaire?"
They put me on a show and I win
    with two lifelines to spare
    Picture this
I act like nothing ever happened
and bury all the money in a coffee can
Well, I've been given more than Regis ever gave away
I was a dead man who was called to come out of my grave
I think it's time for makin' some noise
    CHORUS:
    Wake the neighbors
    Get the word out
Come on, crank up the music, climb a mountain and shout
This is life we've been given, made to be lived out
So, la, la, la, la, live out loud
    Think about this
Try to keep a bird from singing after
it's soared up in the sky
Give the sun a cloudless day and tell
    it not to shine
    Think about this
If we really have been given the gift
of life that will never end
And if we have been filled with living
    hope, we're gonna overflow
And if God's love is burning in our
    hearts, we're gonna glow
There's just no way to keep it in
    CHORUS
So, la, la, la, la, live out loud
    Live out loud
    Everybody
La, la, la...la, la, la...la, la, la, live out loud
    I wanna hear everybody
La, la, la...la, la, la...la, la, la, live out loud
Every corner of creation is a living declaration
Come join the song we were made to sing
    CHORUS
This song to me talks about living out love. Be joyful about everything and live life to the fullest within the proper boundaries. If you choose not to do that you are going to for sure without a doubt end up in trouble in one way or another. Just be ready for what’s coming your way from every side. These things will try to hold you back from living your life to the fullest.

  8. Well i know ima kinda late but i still thought ill do this anyway my favorite song would have to be "Misunderstood" by lil wayne and it kinda reminds me about alot of things and heres the lyrics

    Misunderstood aint gotta be explained
But you don't understand me so let me explain
Stood in the heat, the flames, the snow
    please slow down hurricane
The wind blow, my dreads swang
He had hair like wool, like wayne
    dropping ashes in the bible
i shake em out and they fall on the rifle
scary, hail mary no tale fairy
    all real very, extraordinary
perry mason facing, the barrel if he tattle
my God is my judge, no gown no gavel
i'm a rebel, down to battle
now or never, i would never ???
f**king fantastic, f**k if you agree
but i don't give a f**k if you see me

i'm just a soul whose intentions are good
O lord please don't let me be misunderstood

What's understood aint gotta be explained
so for those who understand meet Dwayne
for 8 and a half months i gave da pain
now it's young money baby, keep the change
my mama say f**k em and we the same
so hello mothaf**ka you got some sheets to change
and aint it funny how people change like easter sunday
you know church fit then outfit,
bright pink and green chest look house lit
bright pinky rings but that aint about this
    what you bout b*tch
excuse my french emotion in my passion
but I wear my heart on my sleeve like it's the new fashion
what are you asking, if i don't have the answer
it's probably on the web, like i'm a damn tarantula
but i know you don't understand, cuz you thought lil wayne is weezy
    but weezy is dwayne

And what this songs tells me is that you may think you understand how someone feels or think but you never really know unless they explain it to you or it ahppen to you.
